‘The Queen of Versailles’ is one of the 16 films competing in the Documentary section of the 47th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival this year.

Directed by US award-winning filmmaker Lauren Greenfield, the film gives a glimpse into the lavish lifestyle of American billionaire David Siegel and his wife Jackie.

She is 30 years his junior, they have eight children and are planning to build the largest house in the USA, inspired by the Palace of Versailles.

It is planned to have dozens of bedrooms and bathrooms. Four million euros worth of marble being imported from China. But the economic crisis of 2008 has started to puncture this American dream.

US award-winning filmmaker Lauren Greenfield spent two years making the film, which mirrors the life and trials of the family and also the business dealings of David Siegel’s firm Westgate.

‘The Queen of Versailles’ was due to open in the US on July 20 and in Europe this autumn.
