The captain of the wrecked Costa Concordia cruise liner Francesco Schettino has had his house arrest lifted.

Pending his trial, he is now allowed out, but only within his home town of Meta di Sorrento near Naples.

Schettino has been charged with multiple counts of manslaughter, causing the accident and abandoning the ship early.

Thirty people died in the accident on January 13.
