Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen is tipped to scoop the best actor award at this years Cannes Film festival for his part in “The Hunt”.
The film about child abuse and its impact on a small community is directed by Thomas Vinterberg and is one of 22 films in competition in the annual festival in the Cote d’Azur. The awards will be announced next Sunday.
“This festival for me is the only festival in the world that protects the small and pure and personal films and yet has the same strong amount of glamour around it. It’s such a powerful place, such an important place and that’s why I’m so proud to be here,” said Thomas Vinterberg.
In the film Mikkelsen plays Lucas a nursery school teacher accused of sexual abuse by the young daughter of his best friend.
Events spiral out of control as Lucas fights a lonely battle to prove his innocence.
He confronts his doubters leading to tense standoffs and outbursts of violence which end in humiliation.
