In an exclusive interview coming soon on euronews Professor Jeremy Rifkin, special advisor to the European Union, claims that his “3rd Industrial Revolution“ theories are the only way out of the current economic turmoil and the environmental challenges facing the planet, as well as a real solution for developping countries.
His only concern is that authorities will not understand his theories quickly enough.
“Our houses must become a power plant using geothermic, solar, wind… Even the rubbish will be a major source of energy”, he says.
“We will create our own energy as we create our own information on the Internet thanks to blogs and social networks. And this self-produced energy will be distributed the same way we share our Facebook updates or our latest blog post: thanks to the “energy internet”.
In the same way that media and the entertainment industry have had to change, energy companies will have to learn to adapt, the American economist believes.
This deep transformation of our economic model will create hundreds of thousands of jobs he says, adding that the new French government may become a key ally for change.
Jeremy Rifkin has been invited to the French city of Lyon to participate at the ‘European Lab for Festivals’, part of the electronic music festival Nuits Sonores.
He is one of the keynote speakers at a major EU conference: “Mission Growth: Europe at the Lead of the New Industrial Revolution” to be held in Brussels on May 29.
This exclusive euronews interview will be broadcast in the coming days.
