Hungarian President Pal Schmitt has been stripped of his doctorate, after an investigation revealed he plagarised large parts of his 1992 thesis.

Critics say this has damaged the integrity of his office, and a recent internet poll showed that 90 per cent of people were in favour of his resignation.
