Strikes bring Sicily to a halt

Traffic on the Italian island of Sicily has been brought to a virtual standstill after a five day strike by truckers, farmers and fishermen. The movement is a protest against the government’s cutbacks and a rise in fuel prices. One union says its members will go back to work but others have given no indication.
