Angelina Jolie’s first outing as a director is the film “In the Land of Blood and Honey”, a Romeo and Juliet tale set during the war in Bosnia.
Angelina Jolie says the film is part of her efforts to raise awareness and make things better in the world. Brad Pitt said that Angelina’s first job is her charity work. The couple say that they’re very aware of their own good luck, and want to help others.
Filming on the production ran into trouble when the rumour spread that the plot concerned a rape victim falling in love with her rapist, leading to the cancellation of the filming permit. The rumour however was finally squashed and filming continued in Sarajevo.
The result is not for the squeamish: the film is violent and disturbing. Angelina Jolie is unrepentant, saying that she wanted to show the realities of living in a war zone.
The film’s release may be some time away however. James Braddock, the author of a book published in 2007 called “A Soul Shattering” says Angelina Jolie stole the idea from him.
Angelina Jolie denies this, but James Braddock is taking the claim to court, saying that he discussed adapting his book for film several times with Jolie’s co-producer, Eden Sarkic.
