The Amazon Green Tree Raid is the only adventure raid in the world reserved exclusively for women and the tenth edition of the gruelling race took place against the spectacular backdrop of French Guiana. Euronews was there every step of the way.

Seventy five teams each comprising of three women meant 225 competitors in total from all around Europe participated in this fantastic six-day adventure which combines mountain biking, a foot race, trekking and canoeing.

All were in agreement that this edition of the raid was one of the competition’s finest after discovering the breathtaking riches of the region, but also one of its most toughest in terms of sporting challenges.

With an average temperature of 35 degrees and humidity levels equally demanding, the conditions were particularly difficult.

One raider said “It’s hot, really hot! Fortunately I have a great team which helps, having a rugby player and a sports coach on the team is fantastic! But I do have trouble breathing, it’s crazy, the humidity levels in the forest are 90%!!”

Team L’Arbre Vert Bourgogne officially won the 10th edition of the Amazon Green Tree Raid, but the winners receive nothing – that is what makes this Raid so special – it is more about solidarity, the satisfaction of competing and the life experience itself. Venturing to the very limits of ones force and ability.
