Hundreds of fans lined up in the small Italian town of Coriano on Wednesday to pay their respects to MotoGP rider Marco Simoncelli who died over the weekend in a crash during a race in Sepang.

The 2008 champion lost control of his bike on the second lap of the Malaysian Grand Prix and was struck by fellow riders Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi as he slid across the track.

Organisers expect thousands of people from all over the country to attend the funeral which will take place in Coriano on Thursday.
