October 18, 1954. the Regency TR-1, the world’s first commercially-produced transistor radio is released, by two companies working together, Texas Instruments and Industrial Development Engineering Associates. The TR-1 was considered a very advanced product for its time, using printed circuit boards, and what were then considered micro-miniature components. Its initial cost was $49.95 .
