Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta appeared in court this week as part of an investigation into alleged financial irregularities in his dealing with football clubs from Uzbekistan.

Turkish football agent Bayram Tutumlu has claimed Laporta pocketed 10 million euros in illegal commissions for services provided by the Catalan club.

Tutumlu said: “Several members of Barcelona uncovered something very important. He diverted money from the club to his own pocket.’‘

The illegal commissions are alleged to have been deposited in a Swiss bank account belonging to Laporta’s law firm.

Laporta, who has denied knowing Tutumlu, believes he is the victim of a political conspiracy orchestrated by the current President Sandro Rosell.

Laporta said: “There are members of the executive committee, starting by the actual president that, to be polite, have behaved badly. They have transformed a false accusation for their own interests.”

The affair has been met with mixed opinions at the club where under Laporta’s guidance the Catalans won the Champions League twice and the Spanish league four times making it the most successful period in Barcelona’s history.
