A cleric linked to two terrorist attacks in the United States has been killed in Yemen. Anwar al-Awlaki, who was born in America, but has been living in Yemen since 2007, died after a Friday morning raid.

Authorities in the US branded him a ‘global terrorist’. Awlaki also spent two years living in the UK.

One of the attacks he was implicated in is the 2009 failed attempt to bomb a plane bound for the US.

Awlaki is also said to have had contact with US army psychiatrist Major Nidal Malik Hasan, who killed 13 people on an American military base two years ago.

Awlaki’s death was announced on Yemeni television, however, the specific details are not known yet – such as whether he was killed by the US or Yemeni forces. He and four others were killed in an Al Qaeda stronghold in the east of Yemen.
