Miss Angola, Leila Lopes, has been crowned Miss Universe at the 60th annual pageant in Sao Paolo.
The 25 year old business student had dazzled the panel of judges with her looks and what she called her ‘inner beauty.’
The popularity of this kind of contest has waned in many countries but this was watched by millions around the world.
She told the audience: “As Miss Angola I have already been doing a lot for my people. I have been working in many social projects. I have been working with underprivileged children, I have been working in the battle against HIV, I have worked in projects for the elderly. I try to do everything I can to meet my country’s needs and I believe the universe is also in need of my voice and my help.”
Earlier she had sported a brightly coloured bikini, before parading in a clinging gold gown with silver sequins and feathers.
Miss Ukraine, Olesia Stefanko was the runner-up.
