The Russian President has joined thousands of mourners at a memorial service for the victims of a plane crash that killed members of a top ice hockey team.
People paid their respects in the Yaroslavl sports arena after the deaths of nearly the entire squad of the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl club.
The team was due to play a game in the capital of Belarus when their Yak-42 aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from Yaroslavl.
All but two of the 45 people on board died, including three top Czech players.
A memorial ceremony was held in the capital of Belarus on Thursday, attended by President Alexander Lukashenko.
He told mourners the deaths were a huge loss for the world of ice hockey, describing the players as best friends and brothers.
Russia’s top ice hockey teams have announced they will each provide a player to help rebuild the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl club.
