Spain’s Daniel Moreno held his nerve to clinch stage four of the Vuelta atop Sierra Nevada as France’s Sylvain Chavanel moved into the race lead.

The 29-year-old, who moved above Pablo Lastras in the king of the mountains standings, hung on to the wheel of Denmark’s Chris Sorensen before timing his sprint perfectly to claim the biggest win of his career.

Wednesday’s fifth stage is a 187-km trek from Sierra Nevada to Valdepeñas de Jaén.
