The Gabala music festival in Azerbaijan featured both classical and folk music. The Russian State Symphony Orchestra was resident during the festival. The conductor, Yuri Bashmet, says couldn’t resist the offer to conduct this orchestra.

The festival was truly international. Russian sporano Anna Samuil lives in Germany and performed with Italian tenor Massimiliano Pisapia.

The Terem Quartet combines classical music with folk and rock to make a fusion style all of their own.

Oxana Yablonskaya performed with her son Dimitri, who was also one of the festival’s artistic directors.

Alena Baeva played a violin loaned to her by the State Collection of Russia.
