Cadel Evans stayed out of trouble in the final stage of the Tour de France to become the first Australian to win the great race.

Evans displayed maximum courage in all the gruelling disciplines the tour demands of its winners. He never panicked and could not be shaken, Evans deserved his victory.

For Mark Cavendish and his HTC Highroad team there was still some unfinished business on the Champs-Elysées.

Cavendish never looked in any danger as the peloton flew round the most magnificent sprint arena in the world.

The Manxman won the stage for his fifth victory in the 2011 tour to claim the coveted green jersey, the first British rider to go home in green from the Tour de France.
