Reigning European champions Barcelona returned to preseason training on Monday and according to reports, the Catalans are ready to fight to bring Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas back to the club right up until the transfer deadline on the 31rst of August.

Despite the Gunners rejecting Barcelona’s first bid, coach Pep Guardiola remains confident.

Pep Guardiola: ‘‘This is the way it is and there’s nothing we can do about it. We’ve already made an offer and it’s now up to the player and his club to decide what they want to do. Every year we try and attract new players but if the ones we really want don’t want to join us, we just have to make do with our squad. I’m still very hopeful… We’ll just have to wait and see.’‘

Fabregas came through Barcelona’s youth academy at the same time as Argentina’s Lionel Messi before joining Arsenal in 2003.

The Spaniard is currently injured and hasn’t joined his team-mates on their tour of Asia.
