Giant Alexander statue erected in Skopje

A 11-metre-high, 40 tonne statue of Alexander the Great has been installed in central Skopje, but critics say his presence will not please everyone. Neighbouring Greece says the country’s use of the name, Macedonia, clashes with its own northern province, Alexander’s birthplace and is stalling FYR Macedonia’s entry into the EU and NATO.
