Police in Pakistan have shown an eight year old girl on national television, who they say was kidnapped by militants and forced to wear a suicide vest to attack the security forces. The youngster was identified as Sohana Javaid from Peshawar.

She told reporters she was abducted by two men and two women in a car and driven to the region of Lower Dir. She was forced to wear a suicide vest and taken to a security checkpoint. But she says she managed to take it off and shout for help. There is no way to independently verify her story.

There have been claims that the Taliban have begun using child suicide bombers in areas along the eastern Afghan front.

But attacks by women and children remain rare.
