At least two people in New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland, have been killed by a tornado. Officials said 14 were injured.

Tornadoes are not usually serious here. New Zealand gets around 20 per year, but they rarely claim lives.

The tornado in Auckland struck the northern suburb of Albany, notably hitting a shopping mall and scarring a five-km trail before dissipating.

The whirlwind descended at around 3pm local time. Shoppers were hurt, roofs torn off and cars severely damaged.
