The guest list of who has been invited to Britain’s royal wedding has been released.
As expected the mix combines celebrities, monarchs, politicians and sporting greats. Among those invited is Elton John, the veteran pop star and a favourite of Prince William’s late mother, Diana.
And what uber-celebrity guest list would be complete without Posh and Becks? Footballer David Beckham has been given special permission from his team LA Galaxy to attend. But he has to be in Texas for a match on Sunday.
Journalist Jennie Bond, who has been watching the British royal family for years, says the guest list reflects William and Kate’s interests, friends and family: “It’s largely a traditional establishment wedding. Lots of kings and queens, lots of crown princes, some of the great and good. It’s a combination of all things.”
There are some notable absences, however. William’s aunt Sarah Ferguson has been omitted but her daughters Beatrice and Eugenie, as fifth and sixth in line to the throne, will be there.
Foreign leaders have not been invited either so there is no space for the Obamas. But royal officials say the decision should not be seen as a snub.
