A 300 year-old British royal succession law may be scrapped to allow any daughters of the soon-to-be married Prince William and Kate Middleton to have equal rights to the throne as their sons.

The idea has been mooted by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, who has responsibility for constitutional issues.
