It is day nine of nationwide protests in Bolivia against Evo Morales’s government, with roads blocked and police firing tear gas to clear them of striking teachers and health workers, who are demanding a 15 percent pay rise.

The protests are being led by Bolivia’s biggest trade union the COB, which wants a 15 percent pay rise for all its members. Morales himself came to power on the back of protests that ousted two presidents.
