After 12th day of protests, Mubarak remains president

An Arab-language television station that reportedly stated that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak had resigned as head of the NDP party, has now retracted the report. Had the information been true it would not have affected Mr Mubarak’s position as president.

However, other senior members of the party’s ruling executive have resigned, including the president’s son, Gamal Mubarak.

The new secretary general of the party is Hossam Badrawi, who is seen as being on the liberal side of the party
