The United States on Sunday said it will evacuate any of its citizens who want to leave Egypt.

In a statement on its website, the US embassy in Cairo said flights would depart from various locations across the country on Monday.

The specially-chartered planes would then transport Americans to Europe.

Turkey is also sending planes to get its nationals out of Egypt.

Two jets have already arrived in the country to repatriate some 750 Turkish citizens.

Many European countries, including the UK and France, have warned against travelling to Egypt because of the political unrest.

Travel agencies are also postponing or cancelling holidays on security grounds.
