Kosovo’s prime minister is fighting to protect his reputation after the Council of Europe called for an enquiry into human organ trafficking during the mid 1990s. It particular it raised questions over Hashim Thaci’s involvement.
It follows last month’s report by Dick Marty who has accused Hashim Thaci of being at the centre of an organised crime ring during and after the Kosovan Albanian guerrilla war for independence from Serbia.“The victims were Serb , the victims were Kosovan Albanians considered as traitors or members of rival groups, to us they were human beings. It is rare to find over such a long period of time despite so many accusations that nothing has been done, said Marty.
The charges claim that members of the Kosovo Liberation Army killed opponents and trafficked in drugs and organs taken from the murdered Serbs.
Thaci who was a military commander back then has denied the allegations calling them baseless.
