A Soyuz capsule carrying two US astronauts and a Russian cosmonaut back to earth from the International Space Station has landed safely in Kazakhstan.

Russian Mission Control said the spacecraft touched down on time.

After Soyuz Commander Fyodor Yurchikhin, Flight Engineer Shannon Walker and Mission Commander Doug Wheelock were next to be lifted out.

Earlier the crew from Expedition 25 said their goodbyes to the remaining members on board the station.

During their five and a half months in space, they conducted scientific research and carried out maintenance work.

The next Soyuz mission to the ISS is set for next month.
