The French senate has adopted the controversial pension reform bill.
Amid strikes and social unrest over the plans to raise the retirement age from 60 to 62, the government used a special measure to speed up the voting process. Senators voted 177 to 153 to pass the legislation.
Now the bill will go to a joint parliamentary commission that will rubber stamp changes from the original text. The final step will then be a definitive vote in parliament, by next Wednesday at the latest.
