The Quartet of Middle East peace negotiators are set to call on Israel to extend its freeze on settlement building in the West Bank.
According to a draft statement, The Quartet — the United States, the United Nations, the European Union and Russia — will urge “the continuation of the moratorium” which is set to expire at the end of this month.
The building of settlements in the disputed West Bank territory is one of the major issues to be resolved in the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians.
Israel captured the land during the Six Day War with Egypt, Syria and Jordan in 1967.
The Palestinians say the land belongs to them and want Israel to withdraw.
