France has raised its terror threat to one below the highest after its security services say they uncovered a plot by a female suicide bomber to blow herself up.
Authorities say the suspected Islamist attack was planned for a busy part of Paris sometime last week.
In an effort to warn but reassure the public France’s interior minister Brice Hortefeux said: ‘‘The terrorist threat is real. So vigilance has been raised. We’ve mobilised. We’ve mobilised all the necessary means to prevent any dangerous acts.’‘
The planned attack follows a warning at the weekend by France’s internal intelligence chief Bernard Squarcini.
He said the risk of a terrorist strike on French soil had never been higher, claiming the country’s recent Burka ban had seriously increased the danger.
