Police in France have arrested a husband and wife after the corpses of eight newborn babies were found buried in a village in the north of the country.

Authorities have not ruled out finding further bodies. French radio has reported the mother has admitted killing a dozen infants since the late 1980’s, concealing her actions from her husband.

For residents in the small village disbelief: “I’m shocked, I still can’t believe it. I have three children, and I’ve just found out I’m expecting a fourth, This disturbs me a lot. I cannot understand how one could do that.’‘

The grim discovery was made when a new resident in the Northern French village of Viller-au-Tertre near the city of Lille, stumbled upon two infants remains while gardening. The couple have not been named but are said to be in their 40’s.

In recent years France has seen a series of gruesome cases of mothers killing their newborns and then hiding the remains.
