French football star Karime Benzema is completely innocent and has nothing to answer for, his lawyers says.
In an interview with Euronews, lawyer Sylvain Cormier, dismissed the charges against the Real Madrid striker as unfounded and said his client remains confident of clearing his name.
Sylvain Cormier: ‘‘Despite the upheaval that has been caused, Karime Benzema, remains calm. He is untroubled and fiercely denies the charges that have been brought against him. He knows he has done nothing wrong.’‘
Euronews’ François chignac: Looking at the case, what is your position today?
Sylvain Cormier:’‘The indictment against the player especially shocks me. There is no way of assessing correctly the word of one against the word of another, to immediately chose one persons word against the other, Karime Benzema. By indicting Karime Benzema, the judge has immediately discredited the word of the player.’‘
Euronews: Does Karime Benzema feel this case and the indictment could affect his professional career?
Sylvain Cormier:’‘He shouldn’t have to even consider this types of question. He is in a team, Real Madrid, where he competes with great players like Kaka, Ronaldo, Hingain. He also wants to be part of the French team, which is the pinnacle of what one could reach in a career. So, there’s no point in such soul searching, he shouldn’t have to consider such question and the consequences of this indictment. He is not a fool but a competitor. He has to earn his right to be selected and he will do it.’‘
