Scientists get encouraging results on new cancer drug

Scientists at London’s King College say they’ve carried out encouraging tests on a new treatment that promises to shrink breast cancer tumours and help prolong the lives of women with aggressive hereditary cancers.

The drug “olaparib” is in the early stages of development and will not be available for several years to come, but by targetting the faulty genes which cause cancer, it may one day help women with a high level of hereditary risk.
