Suicide bomb kills dozens in Pakistan

At least 45 people have been killed and dozens more wounded by a sucide bomber in Pakistan.

The attack took place outside the office of a senior government official in the Mohmand ethnic Pashtun tribal region on the Afghan border.

The blast also damaged several cars and shops in a commercial neighbourhood.

Pakistani security forces have recently stepped up attacks on Taliban militants in the area around the Swat valley.

Pakistan launched two major offensives last year against homegrown Taliban militants who have killed hundreds of people in retaliatory attacks across Pakistan, mostly in the northwest, but also in major cities.

Just last week, two suicide bombers killed at leat 42 people in an attack on Pakistan’s most important Sufi shrine in the eastern city of Lahore.
