Police in northeast England say they are closing in on a 37-year-old bodybuilder accused of shooting dead his ex-girlfriend’s new lover and wounding two others
Officers have sealed off the village of Rothbury where Raoul Moat is said to be hiding.
He left jail on Thursday after serving a sentence for assault before allegedly running amok with a gun and taking two men captive.
Moat warned on his Facebook page before the shooting spree: “Watch and see what happens.”
On Saturday, he is accused of shooting his former 22-year-old girlfriend, the mother of his 19-month old daugheter, and gunning down her new partner.
In a letter obtained by The Sun newspaper, Moat declared “war” on the police, convinced an officer was dating his ex.
Then on Sunday, a police constable was shot and critically injured while in his patrol car in Newcastle.
It’s believed Moat attacked him as revenge for what he saw as unfair treatment by the police and the relationship between his former lover and a young constable that never was.
