The funeral has taken place in Gaza of four Palestinian divers who were killed by the Israeli navy.

The Israeli army says the men were intercepted before they could carry out a terrorist attack.

Hamas, which runs Gaza, says a fifth man is missing presumed dead, and that the Israeli attack was designed to divert attention from its raid on a flotilla of aid ships eight days ago, in which nine Turks were killed.

Israel countered by saying the incident showed how important it was for Israel to control both land and sea borders with Gaza. The foreign ministry said under the rule of Hamas Gaza had become a platform for attacks on Israel.

In a second incident in Gaza on Monday an Israeli aircraft fired a missile at a group of men the army says was trying to fire a rocket over the border. One man was seriously injured.
