The EU’s statistics office, Eurostat, has confirmed that growth in the euro zone in the first three months of this year was up by just 0.2 percent from the previous quarter. Year-on-year it rose 0.6 percent.

Much of that was due to companies increasing the size of their inventories.

Growth across the 27 countries of the European Union was also just 0.2 percent.
