An attempt to put aside their differences and focus on how relations can be improved.

That is how diplomats are describing a Russia-European Union summit taking place in the south of Russia.

Boosting trade is high on the agenda.

EU Commission President José Manuel Barroso said: “Looking at geo-politics and geo-economics of the 21st century, it seems crystal clear that European Union and Russia must be side by side in a very close partnership and I am sure that this summit will contribute to that.

It’s reported that Russian officials will also press for visa-free travel to Europe for Russian citizens.
