Britain’s economy grew at a slower pace than expected in the first three months of this year hit hard by the harshest winter weather in 30 years.

The Office for National Statistics said GDP grew by 0.2 percent in the first quarter.

Economists has thought it would be twice that level with a repeat of the kind of growth seen in the last three months of 2009.

The figures will support expectations the Bank of England will hold UK interest rates at their record low of 0.5 percent until the strength of the recovery becomes clearer.
