A killing spree at a school in China has left eight children dead and five others wounded.

A former doctor has been arrested by police.

The attack happened outside a primary school in the eastern Fujian province.

The attacker is reported to have been suffering psychiatric problems. He was subdued by passersby and school security guards.

Media reports in China say the community doctor in the city of Nanping had been sacked from his job last year.

One of the five injured students is said to be in a critical condition.
