Britain’s giant defence contractor BAE Systems is planning to create 800 jobs in the UK as part of an eleventh hour attempt to save a 5-billion euro contract for the British Army.

It is rumoured the government is about to give the deal, to build armoured reconnaissance vehicles, to the US.

BAE is proposing to make the chassis in Newcastle now, instead of Sweden, as had been originally planned.
