Eurotunnel’s net profit slumped last year, falling to 1.4 million euros from 34 million a year earlier.

The company operating the Channel Tunnel, between Britain and France was hit by reduced traffic in the early part of the year following a fire in 2008.

In addition the recession led to big drop in truck traffic on its trains and bad weather caused breakdowns of Eurostar trains over Christmas.
