There has been a surprise drop in the number of unemployed in Germany. The latest figures show the amount of jobless people in the country fell from 8 per cent in September to 7.7 per cent in October. Analysts had expected the number to rise.
The figures are better in western Germany, with 38,000 more people finding work there. However, CEO of the Federal Labor Agency, Frank Jurgen-Weise, was less optimistic about the outlook. The agency chief said the economic crisis was still evident in the market and that the recent improved figures do not point to an overall trend. Unemployment in Germany is 0.5 per cent higher than it was this time last year.
