Spanish and French police say they have made three breakthroughs in the last 24 hours in their decades-long effort to dismantle the armed Basque separatist group ETA.

A 29 year old suspected ETA member, Ibai Suescun, turned himself into French authorities yesterday after apparently receiving a gunshot wound to the hand. He is under police guard in a hospital near the town of Lescun in south west France. In a separate development near Montpellier, French police arrested two ETA suspects found in possession of a pistol and false ID papers. They are expected to be transferred to an anti-terrorist unit in Paris. Meanwhile, near the Spanish town of Alicante, a hiker turned over to police a suspicious container that she had found on a hillside. Police have revealed that bomb-making equipment was discovered inside.
