A bomb has exploded in Kohat, northwestern Pakistan. Police say at least 25 people died after a minibus blew up on a main road into the city of Kohat, some 150 kilometres southwest of the capital Islamabad.
It seems to be a suicide attack. Many other people have been injured. Eyewitnesses say the bomb ripped apart several shops in a mainly Shi’ite area. Kohat is close to the tribal Pashtun homelands on the Afghan border, used as a refuge by domestic armed activists and Taliban fighters engaged in Afghanistan. The Sunni Muslim Taliban targets Pakistan’s Shi’ite minority as part of their war against the authorities.
