An major exhibition of works by Akseli Gallen-Kallela has opened in Stavanger in Norway. Gallen-Kallela is Finland’s national painter, best known for his illustrations of the Kalevala – the Finnish national eipc poem. The artist has slipped out of the spotlight in recent years although his star appears to be rising with this exhibition.

Born in 1865 Gallen-Kallela started his career producing realistic depictions of rural life – portraits which were unique at that time. The exhibition runs until the 22nd of November when it will go on tour across Europe. For more information go to Korean Contemporary Art An exhibition of contemporary Korean art has opened in Tunis to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Tunisia and Korea. The works displayed focus on the cultural heritage of Korea through a mix of classicism and modernism using various media including photography, video, painting and sculpture. The exhibition is at the Kheireddine Palace and runs until the end of September.
