As the King of Pop, he spent most of his 50 years in the public gaze but Michael Jackson’s funeral in California was a strictly private affair.
Friends like veteran film star Elizabeth Taylor and the actor Macaulay Culkin were among those invited to pay their last respects. A motorcade bringing the Jackson family, including the “Thriller” star’s three children, arrived more than an hour late, causing the ceremony to be delayed. Fans and reporters were kept away from the guests, amid tight security at the Forest Lawn cemetery near Los Angeles, more than two months after Michael Jackson’s death. The service began with a crown being placed on the singer’s coffin by his children. It ended when the star was interred in a crypt in the vast mock-Renaissance Grand Mausoleum. The cemetery is also the final resting place of icons like Humphrey Bogart and Errol Flynn. In what the Los Angeles coroner ruled was a homicide, Michael Jackson died of a lethal cocktail of prescription drugs. Several doctors have been investigated. As yet, no criminal charges have been brought.
