Polish gay community demands more rights
Text size Aa Aa

Members of Poland’s gay community have held a march calling for more freedom and equal rights.

This is the eighth parade organised by groups opposed to homophobia and discrimination. In the past authorities often attempted to stop gay marches from taking place, but organisers say there now appears to be a little more tolerance. Anti-gay groups held a counter-protest, however, highlighting the deep tension that remains over the issue in Poland. Next summer Warsaw is due to host the 2010 EuroPride event, which this year took place in Zurich.
