The wife of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has reportedly confirmed that she is seeking a divorce following a series of public disputes with her husband.
Two Italian papers carried the news reporting that Veronica Lario, 52, said she felt forced to make the move. According to the press, she has had enough of her husband’s apparent lack of interest in his family and the attention he pays to young women. Last week, Lario slammed Berlusconi’s choice of female candidates for the European elections as “shamelessly trashy”. There are also rumours she had been incensed by her 72-year old husband’s presence at an 18-year-old girl’s birthday party in Naples. Lario is quoted as telling friends that she could not stay with a man who frequented minors. Berlusconi has not made any comment. The couple met in 1980, married ten years later and have three children.
